Kathleen Sexton, Captain

Kathleen Sexton

Captain Sexton has been a member of Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps for more than 15 years. She has worked in the emergency medical services for more than 20 years and previously served as the captain at Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Captain Sexton also leads the RVAC Youth Squad.

Jesus Rodriguez

Jesus D. Rodriguez is the Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps. As Chairman he is the Chief Executive Officer of the organization. He has served in this capacity since January 1st, 2018. He is tasked with the responsibility of making sure the organization succeeds as a whole and that the wishes of the membership are carried out. As Chairman along with the board of Directors he has been instrumental in making sure that the Organization continues to fulfill its Mission to our Communities. Chairman Rodriguez has been an EMT since 2008 and has been involved in EMS since 2005. He has been a member of the organization since 2012 and additionally is an active life time member of RVAC. In the past he has served in various leadership roles such as Lieutenant of Operations and Captain of the organization. Chairman Rodriguez is also a CPR instructor and enjoys training new recruits on the Ambulance. Aside from EMS Chairman Rodríguez owns a small IT/Security integration business and also sits on the Board of another nonprofit organization.

Cameron Yates, 1st Lt. of Administration

Cameron Yates

Cameron became an EMT in 2016 while completing a B.Sc. in Applied Economics at Cornell University, where he was a volunteer with Cornell University EMS and worked per diem for the primary 911 ambulance service covering the Ithaca area until graduating in 2018. Cameron has lived in New York and worked full-time in financial services since graduation from Cornell. During the initial wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, he took a leave of absence from J.P. Morgan to volunteer full-time as part of the New York City Medical Reserve Corps. He was assigned to the Flushing Hospital morgue throughout April 2020 and the Jamaica Hospital emergency department in May 2020. After returning to work in June 2020, he remained a member of the NYC Medical Reserve Corps and later volunteered at a COVID vaccination site in 2021, administering the Moderna vaccine to residents of Bushwick, Brooklyn on weekends and evenings after work.

Cameron joined Ridgewood VAC in 2021 and has been one of the most active members on the ambulance over the past two years. He was appointed Assistant Treasurer in 2022 before being elected as the Treasurer and a First Lieutenant for 2023.


Matthew Tirschwell, Secretary

Matthew Tirschwell

Matthew Tirschwell received his EMT license in 1992 and has been involved in volunteer EMS exclusively. In addition to his EMT credentials, Matthew is a volunteer firefighter, the owner of an architectural lighting design firm that bears his name, and the president of EMS Access Inc, a not-for-profit providing leadership and management support to volunteer EMS agencies operating in the five boroughs.

Danny Hertz, 2nd Lt. of Training

Danny hertz

2nd Lt Hertz has been an EMT for 12 years and a member of RVAC for 4 years. As an EMT & Mental Health Counselor, he assists EMS professionals throughout NYC with burnout and other mental health hardships.


Matthew Smith, 2nd Lt. of Training

Matthew Smith

Originally from Kennebunkport, Maine, Matt became an EMT and began caring for patients while getting his BA from Georgetown University. After graduating, Matt moved to New York City to pursue a Juris Doctorate (JD) at New York University School of Law. While getting his JD, Matt completed the paramedic program at LaGuardia Community College, earning Outstanding Academic Achievement and Faculty Recognition Awards. Matt has worked for over ten years as a paramedic in the New York City 9-1-1 system, and has been recognized for outstanding patient care by the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) on several occasions. Matt has served professionally in leadership roles related to EMS Quality Improvement and Education for more than seven years.

Joseph Campisi has been a member of Middle Village Volunteer Ambulance Corps. for 30 years and is the current president of MVVAC.

Walter Dziemian, Board of Directors (2023-2025)

Walter Dziemian

Walter Dziemian has been in volunteer EMS since 1994 and worked as an auxiliary member of the NYPD Emergency Services Unit for 20 years. He has been a member of RVAC for 3 years. Captain Dziemian is the facilities manager at the LeFrak Center at Prospect Park, a 74 million dollar facility.
